(Candy) Crush your Business Goals with Habit Lab!

What does the word habit mean to you?

Does it have negative connotations like smoking or biting your fingernails. The adage old habits die hard, procrastination, self-sabotage, distraction; what’s your flavour of choice?

No one sets out to form a habit of playing Candy Crush. We start with mild curiosity and a couple of levels each day on the train. Before you know it 5 years have passed and you have a nasty case of RSI.

Collins English dictionary states “A habit is something that you do often or regularly.” Then it goes a step further saying “A habit is an action which is considered bad that someone does repeatedly and finds it difficult to stop doing.”

It actually calls out habits as bad and something we should want to stop doing.

But are habits always a bad thing? Not on my watch.

All habits, productive or otherwise start with one day, one decision and a sprinkling of curiosity. “Oh, this looks interesting, I wonder…”. 9 times out of 10 we don’t even know if it’s a good move or not until we’re right inside the rabbit hole.

Personally I care too much about my clients to leave things to chance. You’ve worked too hard to let your dreams die like your phone battery as you doom scroll, frustrated with all the things you think you “should” be doing while at the same time, not having any real confidence that even if you did the things, you’d see a return on them.

Drop the should. I’ve got a sure thing for you.

What if it were possible to form habits you didn’t feel rotten about? Habits that give you a dopamine hit and cleared the mental clutter that’s cluttering up your mind. Habits that actually give you time rather than robbing you of it. Habits that could incrementally but irreversibly change the course of your business and your life?

Enter The Habit Lab

As a recovering sabotage pro, I know exactly how hard it can be to break the cycle. I’ve tried reminder apps and alarms (I just turn them off 9 times out of 10), I’ve tried schedule changes, and I’ve tried accountability partnering. None of it lasted. The only thing that worked to create lasting change was habit tethering. Taking a daily habit I already have and tethering the new habit to it.

For example; I now need to take a daily pill at the same time every day. As I already brush my teeth before I go to bed at the same time every day, I tethered my pill taking to brushing my teeth.

Habit lab is a magical mix of habit tethering alongside, small but mighty business tasks. Things that don’t take much time and don’t require a mental marathon but are the core foundations to a solid and successful business.

It will arrive in your inbox every day and you can smash it while you drink your morning coffee. What’s more you are safe in the knowledge that there are countless others doing it alongside you, because solidarity is definitely a thing, right? And I’m at the end of the email if you need any support or inspiration. Think of it as Candy Crush but with real gold bars at the end. The gold of a stronger business, a clearer mind and more time to do the things you love.
